Possible ALL TIME records for highs AND LOWS in the B.A.
The SF Bay Area is having record heat today. Now,we get those record highs every now and then..this might include record lows. Hayward is predicted to have a low of 72F..that's a record. Our high might be 100+ F lets see the 72 low is 22C. That's a winter heatwave. GW. I wish it had kicked in 30 years ago..by now who knows what could be grown?
More greenhouse pics Butterfly room..
UPDATE: San Francisco had its hottest day ever recorded today with 106f, 41C. Oh ,its truly hot out there.

That's a beautiful butterfly. Sadly, I have seen very few in my area this year. There were virtually none on the buddlejas. Only hope is for some later butterflies on the sedums etc.

106f phew thats a scorcher that would toast all my tree ferns if it was for any length of time. We had 20c and a drop to 10c Friday night it did look warmer at the England football match played in Malta though.
Distinct lack of butterflies in the East Mids as well Martin a few big dragon flies arriving though

Today. Just blazing. I went out just to see what 107f (41C) felt like. Like the inside of the sun. 107 would be our hottest day by 3f. Other trivia? San Francisco had its first ever back to back 100f+ days.
Cloudforest plant hating desert heat ans 15% humidity.
Melting Persian Sheild.
People in San Francisco hiding from the sun under the palms. That's a new one.

I know how you feel because a few years ago we had our new record of 114f at Observatory Hill and 115f at the airport. It's a bit exhilarating knowing that history's being made.

Whew, for once I'm glad to be in Fukuoka and not SF! After a consistently hot summer we have been having highs in the mid-upper 20s Celsius this week. Very tolerable! The fires up in BC are terrible so I do hope the Canadian and US west coast cools off and gets some moist sooner than later!

What you say Scott about cool loving ferns giving up in your hot and humid summers? My Red maurelii for the first time..just wilted -partially- in the 108f. This is the same day photo of what was a perfect leafed plant before. The green edible low land "Ice Cream" had no problems.

Re: Possible ALL TIME records for highs AND LOWS in the B.A.
11 days into September and we are far above average in temperatures- 87f/31C and 67f/19C low. I'm sort of shocked at the highs being 10f above average- its that the low temps though that I would have thought been something impossible,a run of mornings 12f above average. Our typical for the month is 77f/25C and 55f/13C. This is the bay area..moderation rules. Big swings are impossible but for 2-3 days. This is just more of that ratcheting of temps. Next week we cool, then after that it rises again.
