Update on bay area mango.
Its been seven years- 2 years to start in a pot. Then it was killed back in 2012. I was sure the graft had made it..but those are Manila type fruit not Baileys Marvel round. I planted it out in spring 2012 as a stick with a few leafs. Its about 10' tall,a bit under maybe. It is a triple trunked plant.

Thanks James. I know it can be done..not easy, but be done. I always heard the tale of a small Mango tree in San Jose that died in the 1990 freeze. I tell ya,we ever get one of those again? This tree is getting full blown modern science- Christmas lights!

It's so easy to reflect on all the failures and what could have been. We rarely stop to enjoy the successes. I like how enthusiastic you are about plants and so upbeat. A lot of us here are moaners and groaners

I agree with James... those leaves look lovely when set against the backdrop of the Musa behind it. What is the Musa species Stan?

Re: Update on bay area mango.
Thanks Mo. I still too get a thrill finding plants in other yards I didn't know grew here or well. Ficus benjamina's that have even reached small tree status are more hens teeth this far north in California. I'm really a die hard plant "birder" Andy- that's the old Ensente maurelii. Its lasted well past my first try many years ago. That one went for about 5 years, flowered and died. This has to be 6 or 7 and triple, quadruple the mass of the first. Its got a very hefty trunk. This one has gotten more water and protection from drying winds.

Re: Update on bay area mango.
One from the ladder. Planted out in spring 2012 after a Jan frost had cut the tree from a potted 6' to a 2' stick. Since then no setbacks. One year of no growth- but it did give me like 10 small fruits. Now,I remove excess panicles trying to get some fruit with healthy growth and hopefully one day I wont have to do that at all. Its should have enough foliage to grow and fruit. Sorry- Indulge me!

Re: Update on bay area mango.
I found photos of this tree from May 2014- 2016. I lost them on my old hard drive, and photobucket cut off access. But it shows- not bragging ( much)- better growth then I remembered. May 2014. I copied off of Google search. The only way. Not quite 3'
September 2014. I used Palmpedia and their photo loader.
2015
And one more from today- About 9+'

Re: Update on bay area mango.
Thanks very much Kev. I found posts back to 2007 here on gote. My first effort killed off in winter of 2007..my second-did fine all summer, but the spot I chose stayed too wet and shady in winter. Its root rotted., and then finally got it down on my third. Photobucket, cut off the first photo's of this last Mango. So three tries. I think that's pretty much par and philosophy for GOTE!
