Sad news Alexander
Sorry to say I have to inform the members here that Alexander from The Netherlands passed away on September the 10th. His enthusiasm for plants and palms was second to none and I particularly enjoyed his posts on his travels through Mexico and around Cuba in a taxi a sad loss.
I will always remember his signature on his posts Living to close to the arctic circle! hopefully he had some time to experience the warmer climes before he was taken way to early.
Condolences to his friends and family he will be missed.

Re: Sad news Alexander
How awful! So passionate about plants and love to get his hands dirty and get out there where others did not brave to go. The flame that burns twice as bright burns half as long. I'd like to hold on to that thought. He visited so many places , got so many experiences that some will not get in 200 years. Lived life to the fullest. Sad loss and will be missed

Re: Sad news Alexander
On the dutch forum ''Palmvrienden'' and also the EPS , I saw posts about the sad news of the passing away of our well known forum member Alexander Nijman on 10th of September. He was cremated with the presence of family. I don't have any further information on the circumstances. Alexander had a big enthusiasm for such a big variety of plants and for this also he will be missed. He had a big knowledge and he backed that up by making so many overseas trips to see the plants in their habitat. The butterfly garden was also a part of his life. Our condolences to his family and friends; http://palmvrienden.net/forums/viewtopi ... 24&t=20566Mr.Mike [MJ Papay] an american member of the EPS took this photo of Alexander when he visited the USA and had the experience of meeting him when he took him to the Green Swamp to see pitcher plants, sundews, orchids, ferns, fly traps in habitat. According Mr. Mike, Alexander visited very nearly every place that David Attenborough had - following in his footsteps-so-to-speak - and also many places Sir David had not seen. MJ Papay made this picture of Alexander, and according him.... ''where he was happiest - in the field with the plants he adored. Here, in May 2014, with the "Copper-top" form of Sarracenia flava ''.

Re: Sad news Alexander
One day we disscussed some ferns to try in my fernery, he recommended me Pteris wallichiana, which I learned from him, and now I have one. Thus he left a mark even in my Moscow garden...
Very sad news, my deepest Condolences!

Re: Sad news Alexander
Alexander was a man with experience. He had been to more places than I could ever dream of and his knowledge of plants in the wild was awe inspiring. Sadly he has left us too early.
