Plants this time of year in show, here.
There are some plants in my garden which at this time of year have finally come into their own. Just in time...
Every year M.basjoo flowers, but this year I've got 4 flowering with lots of bees. Somewhere there is a great store of banana honey.
I've had Ensete vent. Montbellardei (don't remember how to spell it) for about 14 years, always gets large, but I'm wondering when it will flower. Not that I want it to.
And of course Hedychiums are stealing a lot of attention now

Thanks for the update on your garden Andrew its good to see you still look in on the forum. I think the mass flowering of your Basjoo is going to leave a big space in your garden do you have plenty of pups to take their place?
I think you are safe in the face that your Ensete is not going to flower yet the flowering plants we observed in Madeira had a good 6 feet of fat pseudostem on those flowering bananas I guess you chop it each year and store?

I agree with Kev. It's nice to see updates of how things are going. I've not got any banana to flower yet. I don't know if I want it to flower as I enjoy the architectural form. You are another member who needs to post more Steven is another one. Germany needs representation!

Kev, I wonder what the trigger is for an Ensete vent to go into flower? I'm not sure it is the size of the plant, but the age. Unless the Ensete knows the difference between it's real time size and what it should be for it's age... Perhaps the winter break in growing sets it back enough that it's clock starts all over again when it warms up every season. I do like most others do, chop it back as little as possible and keep it just ticking over in my greenhouse which stays only just above freezing. I understand that after Muses have produced a certain number of leaves the stem produces a flower. If this was the same for Ensete then mine should have flowered years ago. As for pups, I have plenty taking the places of those in flower. So no holes! Mo, I'll try to get more pics up. I have found over the many years of doing this that my talents lay in growing certain plants and regularly killing others. I'm pretty good at growing large leaf things. But Cycads, and tree ferns die every year.
