Re: Tree ferns after 40 years
This is what happened to mine - I just couldn't keep pace with the water demands.

Re: Tree ferns after 40 years
Thanks Mau The winter is over but did not bring a lot of good, he came too late and got out cold, It started with unlucky snow in December, 3 December, 10 December when most plants were dragged back in again, a very soft Christmas and warm January, my C. medullaris was still beautiful with the D.fibrosa and C.australis and D.a. Outside, Unfortunately, February was immediately cold and I had to protect everything, the C.medullaris tent with heat source the rest at first without, but -8ºC was too cold for C.australis and D.A. the D.fibrosa remained green! 5 February, The last week of February became a real winter week with 4 ice days and temp. to almost -9ºC now I had 40watt lamp protection at the D.A- D.F- and C.A, The windows of the winter greenhouse are also completely frozen!, Unfortunately, the D.A and C.A turned out to have brown leaves, they have to start flushing again, the D.fibrosa is the strongest and still looks beautiful C.australis, D.antarctica, The C.medullaris has remained green although the frond remains tied up until we have leaf on the trees again, Eduard.

Re: Tree ferns after 40 years
I don't think I posted this. Its a nice and full C.cooperi with the subtropical fruit tree Cherimoya. To the far right Ensente maurellii getting over the cold.

Re: Tree ferns after 40 years
I'm thinking of building a mini greenhouse like that for the Dec-Feb duration next year. Practical.

Re: Tree ferns after 40 years
Thanks Tom, I hope they make beautiful crowns again this year, Stan I do not think you need protection considering your location Eduard.

Re: Tree ferns after 40 years
Thanks Eduard! I'm not hijacking..but this seems to be a good place to post this thin trunked C.cooperi. I've seen then even much thinner..just wildly thin on 6' trunks. For now is this one sort of in that vein.

Re: Tree ferns after 40 years
That is a nice picture Stan of a handsome C. cooperi, think about to strip my cooperi trunk to, so they look much better Eduard.

Re: Tree ferns after 40 years
Spring is abundant, the temperatures are already rising towards 30ºC everything grows well, the C. medullaris came out of the tent well,
Eduard.

Re: Tree ferns after 40 years
Unbelievable accomplishment. Remember that San Francisco,a z10b,lost all their C.medullaris in 1990 and there you are with a great one in the Netherlands.
