Like they read GOTE.
I'm only posting this because I know GOTE have read me say that in my lifetime, the San Francisco bay area Arctic freezes have been shorter and less cold then the last. In 1972 Hayward had in December near freezing or freezing temps near the whole month with our coldest ever recorded low of 18f. ( -8C) 1990 The same type event was less then two weeks and was at 24F (-5C). 1998,28F. On and on ..and this year we had not even a frost. Not that I expect that as the regular. It is the same story here. A frostless winter was a very rare event in the 20th century. Since the begining of the 21th century we have had at least five frostless winters.

Thanks David. I needed the geographical help. Frostless winters that far north must make some incredible gardens compared to what exist inland.

Re: Like they read GOTE.
The thermometer temperature record in the US covers a period from the 1880s to today, an incredibly short period of time, and our own memories are even shorter, which makes it difficult to contextualize the fact that the 1970s were, at least in the US, a remarkably cold period, as were the 1890s. Much was made of this in the news media at the time, with records shattered and the Florida and Texas citrus industries sustaining huge losses. Of course this doesn’t change the fact that, with some exceptions like the “polar vortex“ events of the past several years, recent decades have been remarkably warm/mild but I would not characterize the 1970s as normal either. The 70's also were when...GW is said to have kicked in to high gear. I believe that. Even in the drought year of the 70's here in the bay area record warm days were followed by record cold nights. That never happens these days. The 70's was a decade of extreme. Only now, record warm 21st century days are passing those 70's. Of course I have to include the fact the bay area has added millions of people since the 70's. Urban warming.
