S.F. Bay area summer a bust.
Even on the news, weatherologists have said they have never gotten so much email on how cold its been in San Francisco.highs most of the day in the 50's F if they make 60f +,it's brief as the fog rolls back in.
Not quite as cold here 74f seems to be my high after fog almost till 10 am- noon.
The average is about average, but very strange its not broken by any heatwaves. Last year we had an easy twice a month hot streak of a few days at a time. This year? the last hot streak was sometime in June.
Its like cloudforest weather of the tropics as I imagine-every day almost no change in temps. If plants like it they thrive,if not they are in for a rough time....

I can't complain about the weather at all this summer, it seems very normal here in Berkeley, and not any foggier or cooler in general than average. Even on the days when I have been working over in San Francisco, the eastern half of the city was generally sunny and warm enough for shorts and tee-shirts, even if it didn't make 70F. In fact, the plants in my garden seem to be loving the conditions, everything is growing well. I would just as soon that we don't get heat waves on a regular basis, as it makes landscaping on new projects with no shade a lot harder to do. Lack of heat waves also means less watering and less stress for new plantings. I suspect I will be suffering some heat though with a 2 day landscape install out in Modesto, which I am doing as a favor for my client's parents who live out there. Never spent any time in Modesto before, it should be a learning experience, and all the flowering Lagerstroemia indica and Oleanders will make it obvious I am not in Berkeley anymore...
I never feel any cold inside the house even on a foggy day in summer, as all the remodeling several years ago with added insulation in the walls, double pane windows, as well as new skylights for additional light mean it is still very pleasant both inside and out. It has, however, been cool enough in the mornings before 9 am to want a second long sleeve shirt or sweater on, but just working 10 minutes or so is enough to get plenty warmed up. And one can always drive inland 5 miles if you want real summer, the differences are amazing.

I admit we have a roofers dream summer weather. But not feeling especially motivated to garden in that fog. Today's has taken until well past noon to clear. I scoured the front yard the other day..just nothing has done much to post. It hasnt hurt the veggietables much. I picked Tomato's of all types, cucumber, squash, and a few Sapote fruits that fell from high above. Some uninvited guests had picked the big lower fruits a week ago. Garden in a real urban city..

Finally a cooler day today ... 31°C (88°F) and relief is on the way by Thursday here. Rain is forecast with mid 20's C (75°F) which is long overdue. The forest fire rating is extreme and the officials say we're on for a serious disaster. It wouldn't take much but thankfully rain is on the way. Adios upper 90's and low 100's ... bienvenido 75°F and rain !!!
Cheers, Barrie.
