Summer in Athens
Even though summer 2010 hasn't seen any extreme heatwaves here in Athens (nothing anywhere near the scorching mid 40s celsius it occasionally gets), the temperature has remained consistently above average, especially at night.
June averaged 26.2C. Average daily highs were just over 30.1C, and average lows were just below 23.6C (compared to normal figures of 30C and 20C respectively). Extremes 38.1C (100.6F) and 19.8C (67.6F). Rain recorded on 6 days, but no days with >5mm, total rain 9.4mm.
July averaged 29.4C. Average daily highs were just under 33.9C, and average lows were just below 26.5C (compared to normal figures of 33C and 23C respectively). Extremes 37.6C (99.7F) and 22.9C (73.2F). One freak rainstorm affected parts of the city (including me) dumping 26.4mm in a very brief period on the 3rd, causing a 7.4C drop in temperature in the space of an hour. There was no other measurable rain during the month (although there were a few spots one day, around the 5th or 6th).
August averaged 30.8C. Average daily highs were a little under 35.2C, and average lows were fractionally below 28C (compared to normal figures of 33C and 23C respectively...the same as July). Extremes 38.4C (101.1F) and 24.6C (76.3F). No rain at all.
Over the whole 3 months (92 days) of summer: 35.8 mm of recorded rain, on 7 days. Only 1 night below 20C, and 62 nights above 25C (6 of them above 30C - 86F). Only 2 days below 25C. 72 days above 30C (thirty of those above 35C - 95F).
