Post New all time record
Yesterday and this morning we received the highest amount of rainfall ever, making it and all time record for the reference period of the last 250 years.
70l/m² during a single hour were unheard of so far.

After a thunderstorm last evening the heavy rainfalls didn't stop before 5:30 am this morning.

Some shocking pics of the inner city and the suburbs: ... chaos2.jpg

You can see, that the pressure lifts the manhole cover. :o ... G_6597.jpg ... G_4539.jpg

This is only rain, no nearby stream that has burst its banks. ... G_4537.jpg

(So far about: "There's no speed limits on german Motorways" )

Some seem to have enjoyed it: ... G_4546.jpg

I'm so glad, I live on a slope! :?

Interesting clips Steven whereas here in the middle of the Uk I am having to water nearly every night...........come on share and share alike!
Have you got decent tempretures to go with the rain because if so you do not have my sympathy as that is dream growing conditions.

Here at my place its 23c day and 15c night which is fairly decent for me.

If we shared all the rain of this "summer" with you, the headlines of the papers would have read :"UK and Ireland flooded!"
It was the worst summer for long, far too cool and too wet for June, July and the first week of August. Mean temps were 2 or 3 °C below average, and sun was barely visible.
It seems, now that we are nearing the end of summer the real summer comes back. Last few days were sunny near 30°C but awfully humid. Some tropical nights >20°C also. Besides the humidity, I hope it stays like this!

Althought these temps of 20-24°C as daily highs and 10-16°C at night are as you said indeed superb growing weather for plants, together with all that rain, it's just too bad for ME!!

To give you an idea of what the summer could have been, my (heatloving, thus good-summer-indicator-)Lagerstroemia will open it's single ridiculously tiny inflorescence in two weeks, when I'm lucky. In last years August it's first flush was long over by the beginning of the month, the whole shrub beeing covered with flowers.

That is quite impressive Steven! The most intense rain in I've had in the past 5 years of monitoring weather was 25mm in about 18-20 minutes, so was roughly a similar rate of rainfall but did not last as long. Even so a small brook formed in the drainage plain of my garden that lasted only a minute or two after the storm. It was as though a fire hydrant had been opened and shut. Of course this is to be expected in a humid continental climate. In fact, a world record for one MINUTE rainfall supposedly took place in Maryland, of 31mm, although I wonder if it was a malfunction. ... 8-0303.pdf

For the month of August, due to Hurricane Irene and some other storms, I had 460mm of rain!

David, that is indeed impressive.

80l/m² is quite normal for a thunderstorm, for the WHOLE of a thanderstorm that is, measured over a few hours of rain!

The streets are still damaged, because many manhole covers where removed and the sewers burst!
Driving on the streets these days is more like a slalom.

And all this after the sunniest spring for long, we had more sunhine hours (ca. 160%) in spring than in summer. Weird!
