Wow Rosi you certainly have some cold temperatures to contend with there that's bone chilling. Do you have heat cables on your palms this winter or just some sort of wrapping I think you will do well to get that Phoenix canariensis through winter fully wrapped mine rotted at just -6c ......I hope you prove me wrong because no doubt your summer are way warmer then central England in summer so will put on some tremendous growth.
Welcome to the forum its good to have someone from Bulgaria, you maybe the first, I am sure some other member here will probably have similar cold winters. There are normally others who have similar climates whoever seems to post here.

Re: Greetings from Bulgaria .
PS. Yes, summers in here are with many days above 30 degrees , almost every summer we have a few days with temperatures near or slightly above 40 degrees. Of course the hot summer helps to active growth in almost half of the year.

Rosi, well you are what I would call an "over the edge" gardener I suffer the same disease, so don't take that as a put down. Nice looking palms.

Re: Greetings from Bulgaria .
You might also try something like the silver Med palm..as cold hardy as most and should be a compact clumper you can easily cover for decades. I'm not sure why I'm not seeing that palm in collections in very cold climates. Needle palms might not need much help if any. They though, won't win any beauty prizes. I like Nannorrhops. Thats a good looking hardy palm. Wine palms,so slow, they can be protected for a quarter century or more in ground in a very cold climate.

Hello Rosi. Welcome to the forum. Your garden is fantastic. Sorry it's a bit off topic but I worked in Sofia a few years ago and I just wanted to say that I adore your country and its lovely people. It is a very special place. I look forward to seeing photos of your garden over the coming months. Phil.

Re: Greetings from Bulgaria .
I can not say with precision. I think not fall below minus 2-3 degrees.

Re: Greetings from Bulgaria .
That temp should be ok for most of your palms I would suggest getting a wireless weather station to keep your eye on the tempreature. I use an which seems to be a good buy. I have 2 remote sensors one outside and one in my greenhouse to make sure the heater is coming on ok when it gets cold.
