Queen Palm - Late Summer Update
Time for an update on my small Queen Palm / 3-years on and its still alive and growing better now than it ever has Its gone through 3-winters / 3-springs / 3-summers and 3-autumns - did not think it would still be here 3-years later. So this has been a very interesting experiment for me. This has to be the most ON-THE-EDGE Palm i am growing at the moment outside and unprotected all year round. Here it is.

Re: Queen Palm - Late Summer Update
Well done!
What's the lowest temp it has seen? And what were daytime temps during the coldest part of the year?

Re: Queen Palm - Late Summer Update
Give it plenty of water and high N fertilizers. My neighbor does that and his went from 5 gallon to "I can see them 3 blocks away" height over a few years. Queen palms can handle 9a,9b is no problem at all. Also- they thrive in San Francsico if given the water and N,so they dont need hot summers to grow natural trunks and a decent canopy of fronds. Not like Florida, but good enough.

Re: Queen Palm - Late Summer Update
I would suggest a well be dug around it..give it deep watering. You have great soils..black when wet, that grey when dry. You also might want to mound the soil a bit around the trunk. It looks a little high Rod. I can see roots. I notice my front yard Howea responded to that. It also ended any rocking in windy weather.
